July 24, Missy’s Run a Motorcycle Ride, Dinner & DanceIn honor of the memory of Melissa Cantin Charbonneau, this motorcycle run will be held on Saturday, July 24, rain or shine. The run will leave from the American Legion in Sanford, Maine at 10:00am (registration begins 8:00am), and will travel 80 miles through Maine and New Hampshire with scenic stops at parks along the way, ending at the American Legion in Rochester, New Hampshire. At 1:00pm the American Legion in Rochester will open to both riders and the public for a spaghetti dinner, music, dancing and raffles. Registration for Missy’s Run is $20 per bike, $5 extra per passenger, and $10 at the door in Rochester for non-riders. Proceeds from Missy's Run will benefit New Hampshire Domestic Violence Projects: A Safe Place and the Manchester YWCA, as well as Caring Unlimited. We held this walk at Peirce Island to benefit A Safe Place & the Dog Owners Group of the Seacoast because pets are also victims of domestic abuse. Help Break the Cycle of AbuseBecome a volunteer with A Safe PlacePortsmouth, NH- Join A Safe Place in breaking the cycle of domestic and dating violence by volunteering. Becoming a Volunteer at A Safe Place is a commitment of time, talent and energy. We ask for a commitment of one-year following the training. Volunteers can really make a difference in the lives of victims and are a tremendous help in assisting staff. We encourage people of all walks of life, women and men, to apply to volunteer. Volunteer opportunities are available in many different areas such as direct service with survivors of domestic abuse, fundraising & event planning, education & outreach, & administrative support. We will provide all needed training and support. A Safe Place will hold its next 30-hour training starting February 6th for community members interested in direct service with survivors. We are looking for people who can help during the day in Rochester and Salem especially.
